One for the Books!

Our November 14 author event at the Coronado Center was a huge success, with 6 authors speaking about their books to the 80 eager readers in the audience. Many thanks to Beth Annen, Douglas Beed, Fred Downs, Cy Holliday, Sharon Keathley, and Jason Pederson for sharing their stories with us!

And special thanks to incoming FOCCL Board Member Alex Woodhouse for capturing these great shots of the event!

Here’s incoming FOCCL president Rebecca Schulte at the podium, introducing our line-up of local authors:

Beth Annen spoke about her experiences as a first-time author in writing her memoir, Crooked Cross: A Mother’s Love:

At the request of his nieces and nephews, Douglas Beed wrote Chasing Understanding in the Jungles of Vietnam: My Year as a “Black Scarf” about his Vietnam War service, publishing it only after he realized that there was a much wider audience for this gritty, real-life account of a young soldier’s time in the field:

After a successful business career which involved massive amounts of report writing, Fred Downs came to fiction writing late in life, publishing such Christian fiction titles as The Gates of Hades and Lucifer’s Daughter, as well as his “Tears of Blood” trilogy: The Five Scrolls, The House of Theophilus, and The Crown of Thorns:

Cy Holliday certainly got the audience into a “Holliday” mood by sharing some amusing anecdotes about growing up in a traveling carnival from his George Bailey’s Got Nothing On Me: A Narrative History of the Holliday Family!

Mystery author Sharon Keathley draws on her extensive medical background to craft her six-book “Colors” crime drama series about detective Olivia Samuels:

Former Little Rock KATV 7 journalist (and future Hot Springs Village resident!) Jason Pederson discussed some of the newsworthy events and people he covered during his career as a reporter and how he is now able to provide even more information about these through writing, such as his current book Somebody’s Knocking: Lessons Learned from a Quarter Century of TV Reporting.
