Back to the Future!

In the 1940’s a trivia game debuted on the radio program “Take it or Leave It.” In 1964 trivia appeared for the first time on television in the form of the game show, “Jeopardy.”  On January 4, 1980 the first National Trivia Day was celebrated.  Trivia has been embraced by young and old alike.  It can be found on college campuses, in bars and restaurants, and at the Coronado Center here in Hot Springs Village.

The Friends of the Coronado Center Library (FOCCL) are proud to announce the theme for our next Trivia Night: “Back to the Future: Decades of Trivia”. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, with the proceeds benefiting the library.  Doors will open at 5:00 with the trivia contest beginning at 6:00. Considering that this year is the 40th anniversary of the movie “Back to the Future” and our trivia questions will span the decades from the 1950’s to today, we believe there is not a more appropriate title for this event!

The evening is being dedicated to longtime library supporter Dorothy Lichliter.  Dorothy provided a free table for each trivia night until her recent passing, and FOCCL is very pleased to honor her memory.

Grab a group of 8 and register a table or sign up on your own and get placed on a table for this fun and exciting event. Part of the fun for this event is the tailgating aspect. This year we are introducing the Total Package Award!  Each table gets to decorate their table using creativity, adherence to the theme, and visual appeal as the criteria for judging.  Tables will be judged by 5:45 so participants can settle in and enjoy their tailgating spread prior to the event.

A table of 8 is $100.  Individual registration is $15.  If you would like to check it out without playing, observers are only $5.  We will once again have a 50/50 drawing and a silent auction.  Door prizes will be given out during the night and the winning tailgating table will be awarded a champagne prize.  Don’t forget, the POA will provide a cash bar for this event.

Registration is open and forms can be picked up at the library or printed from our website www.coronado-library.com.  Forms can be mailed in (postmarked by September 12) or dropped off at the library no later than 4 PM September 19.
